Blood Glucose Screening

Blood glucose screening is better than simple screening for assessing risk for diabetes and pre-diabetes. However, the process is more expensive and complicated, and it requires the presence of one or more health care professionals.

Tests for instantaneous glucose levels (fasting or non-fasting) are deemed less accurate than measuring blood glucose levels over time. The HBA1c blood test measures average blood sugar over a 2-3 month period, and is recommended for blood screening initiatives.

LCIF grants are available for glucose screening events. Lions must follow the screening guidelines established by LCIF. Clubs who are considering a mass screening event for the first time may benefit from the experience of other clubs.

Third parties in the Metro Atlanta area offer staff and support for blood sugar screening at community events. Click here for more information.
